Privacy policy
Last updated: 8 November 2026
The short version
- The Toolyn app collects nothing about you. It has no account, no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting and no ads. Your files are processed on your PC and never uploaded.
- A few app features go online, only when you use them, and only to the services listed below.
- This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from other websites. It uses your system's fonts, not web fonts from a third party.
- If you send a bug report or feature request, we keep what you typed, your browser's user agent and the date, but not your IP address.
1. Who is responsible
The controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for this website and for the Toolyn app is:
Amir Alayoubi, Amiro
Hardtstraße 14
76185 Karlsruhe
Germany
Email: contact@toolyn.app
A data protection officer is not required, because fewer than 20 people here regularly process personal data (§ 38 BDSG).
2. This website
Hosting and server logs
This website is hosted on Cloudflare Workers, a service of Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA, under Cloudflare's data processing agreement, which is part of its terms of service. When you open a page, your browser sends technical data that every web server receives: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page and your browser's user agent. Cloudflare processes this data to deliver the site and protect it against attacks.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (our legitimate interest in a secure, working website). Cloudflare may process data in the USA; the transfer is based on Cloudflare's certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses in its data processing agreement. We keep no request logs of our own: logging is switched off for this website.
No cookies, no analytics, no tracking
This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics, advertising or social media tools. It loads no fonts, scripts or images from other websites.
If you use the light/dark switch, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage under the name toolyn-theme. It stays on your device, is never sent to us and can be removed by clearing your browser's site data. This storage is strictly necessary to provide the function you asked for (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG).
Downloads
The Toolyn installer is downloaded from toolyn.app, served by Cloudflare as described above. The host receives the same technical data as described under server logs.
If you email us, we use your address and message only to answer you, and delete them when they are no longer needed, unless the law requires us to keep them. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for questions about a purchase, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Mail to contact@toolyn.app is forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing to our email provider's mailbox.
Bug reports and feature requests
The forms on the feedback page send what you type to our server (a Cloudflare Worker), which stores it in Cloudflare Workers KV, a database run by Cloudflare. For each report we store:
- what you typed into the form: the description, steps, the tool you picked, and the Toolyn and Windows versions (Toolyn fills these two in when it opens the page; you can change them);
- your email address, only if you enter one, so we can reply;
- whether it is a bug report or a feature request, your browser's user agent (its name and version) and the date and time.
We do not store your IP address with the report. To stop floods of automated reports, the server combines your IP address with the date and a secret value, turns that into a one-way hash, and keeps only the hash and a counter for at most one hour. A hidden field that only automated programs fill in also helps to filter them out.
We use reports only to fix bugs and decide what to build, and to answer you if you left an email address. They are not published or shared, except with service providers that process them for us (Cloudflare, under the data processing agreement described above). We delete a report 12 months after we have dealt with it, and earlier if you ask us to.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (our legitimate interest in fixing problems and improving Toolyn, and in protecting the form against abuse); for your email address, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (your consent, given by entering it, which you can withdraw at any time by writing to contact@toolyn.app).
If the form can't reach our server, the page offers to open the same text in your own email program instead. Nothing is sent until you send that email yourself; then it is handled as described under Email.
Purchases (from version 1.0)
There is nothing to buy during the beta. When version 1.0 ships, licenses will be sold through Stripe. This section will describe what Stripe processes and why before any sale starts.
3. The Toolyn app
What stays on your PC
Toolyn works on your PC. Converting, editing, compressing, text recognition (through Windows), transcription (with a speech model on your PC) and the optional AI features (with a model server running on your own PC at 127.0.0.1) never send your files anywhere.
Toolyn keeps these on your PC, in your Windows profile:
- Settings, presets, favorites, to-dos and notes in
%APPDATA%\Toolyn. - Recordings, recovered drafts, caches and Tune-Up's record of changes in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Toolyn. - A history of recent files (their paths and the tool used, at most 24), so you can reopen them.
None of this is sent to us or anyone else. Uninstalling Toolyn leaves these folders in place; you can delete them yourself.
Toolyn has no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no telemetry and no crash reporting. At version 1.0 you will enter a license once to activate Toolyn; this section will describe what activation sends before that version is released.
Features that go online
These features connect to the internet, and only when you use them. Every connection reveals your IP address to the service contacted, as any internet connection does. Toolyn identifies itself to these services as Toolyn/<version> (+https://toolyn.app).
| Feature | Service contacted | What is sent, and when |
|---|---|---|
| Weather on the dashboard | Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) | Off until you turn it on. Then the city name you typed, to find it, and that city's coordinates, to get its forecast; at most every 30 minutes while the dashboard shows. |
| Download Video | The website of the link you paste, through yt-dlp | The link and the requests needed to download the video, when you start a download. |
| Network Speed Test | Cloudflare's speed test (speed.cloudflare.com) | Test data for measuring download, upload and latency, when you run a test. |
| Coordinate Picker map | OpenStreetMap tile servers and Nominatim | Map tiles for the area you view, place names you search for and the point you pick, after you click Show map. |
| Capture Web Page | The website you enter | An ordinary page visit from Edge or Chrome in a fresh profile, without your logins, when you capture it. |
| Installing helper programs | WinGet's sources (FFmpeg, LibreOffice, Inkscape, Calibre, FontForge), GitHub (yt-dlp), Hugging Face (speech models) | Download requests, only when you click Install or download a model. |
Links in the app (such as a helper's download page) open in your web browser, where that website's own privacy policy applies.
Report a bug… and Request a feature… in Toolyn's shortcuts sheet open this website's feedback page in your browser. The address carries only Toolyn's version and Windows' version (for example "Windows 11 24H2 (build 26100)"); nothing is sent until you submit the form.
4. Your rights
You have the right to access your personal data (Art. 15 GDPR), to have it corrected (Art. 16) or erased (Art. 17), to restrict its processing (Art. 18), to data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). To use these rights, email contact@toolyn.app.
You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), for example the one responsible for our place of business: Der Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg, Lautenschlagerstraße 20, 70173 Stuttgart.
5. Changes
We update this policy when the website or the app changes what it processes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
